  Auto service center ripped me off and tried to sell me major me major repairs. My 2005 Yukon suddenly braked sharply. Seemed to be on the left front. I was a couple blocks away so I drove to this Shell to have a mechanic check it out. As I pulled in a sensor light came on indicating a "Stability" problem. I'd suspected the problem was simply brake fluid, but there was no brake noise and this sensor was strange and worrisome. I spoke to Alex the head mechanic. I explained the above factors of the problem. I emphasized I thought it was possibly just brake fluid. He said he needed to run a system diagnostic for $80, but he was sure the problem wasn't brake fluid. More than likely it was the differential or another issue that he explained was costly. It was Friday afternoon and I was leaving town with my son for the weekend, so I consented to the diagnostic. An hour later Alex met me with page 1 of the diagnostic printout. Alex said it indicated a couple serious issues, and the most urgent was going to cost about $1500. The stun of the news within the stress of the situation kept me from studying the printout closely. I trusted him and the quasi proof. I had to think of the options for the weekend so I paused a few long moments. I asked if he'd checked the brake fluid. He said he'd "topped it off" during his physical inspection. I stood thinking long enough for Alex to start negotiating the cost of repairs. He said he could probably get it done for about $850. I told him I needed to go get a rental car and a hotel room, so I needed my SUV to go a few miles to make those arrangements. He said okay and that he'd get my invoice for running the diagnostic. He gave it to the cashier who rang me out for $85 and then gave it to me. On the road to find a hotel I noticed the problem wasn't recurring. I drove further a few more miles and pulled over to read the invoice carefully. The last section at the bottom of the page was "Recommended Service:" In clear type it read, "Oil Change, 5 qt, 10w30 wt." I've not had the braking problem again over the past three weeks. I believe the SUV only needed brake fluid and I was charged needlessly for a diagnostic because the diagnostic showed potential proplems that were exploited by Alex as actual breakdowns. I believe the transaction was a well choreographed scam because of how Alex presented big cost repairs upfront and then presented page 1 of the printout separately. He lowered his price when he saw I would be leaving his shop. The system check resulted in a recommendation for an oil change. I had to surrender my weekend with my son which Alex was told might need to happen. He was prepared to let me rent a car for the three day weekend and absorb also the cost of at least one night hotel stay. In hindsight, every step he took seems shady and callous. Beware.

  Beware of Alec and Mo (head mechanic and owner). My recent experience with them lead me to never take any of my cars there again. I took my Mini in for two specific issues. I needed a fluid service and I had developed a clatter sound in the rear that I strongly suspected was a broken exhaust bracket. My final bill was a whopping $8,500!!! This included the ~$600 of charges I was anticipating for my original complaints. Alec was very good at orchestrating a story for two out of control cost run ups without ever presenting a detailed accounting of the costs. The final bill read like a child gone wild in a candy store. I only got the charges after insisting before going to pick up the car. Alec resisted and wanted me to just show up without any idea what the final bill was. I was absolutely furious to see what all he spend without any explicit authority to do so. It was absolutely a scam deal. I was able to negotiate a "deal" that neither side was happy with. I got my car back for $5000 and "saved" $3500 of the huge run up charges. This was all for a simple ~$600 "real" cost for what I took it in for. So be very very aware. Mo and Alec will take every penny you have and ask that you pay month to month if you can't afford it. I would rather stay stranded at the side of the road as compared to take my car there. Consider yourself informed!!!

  Nothing but 'can't do' attitude here. They changed the card readers on the pumps, and they simply will not read my card. I don't have this problem at any other station. Tried to get an inspection, they wanted me to leave my car all day. I had no other ride so, I guess I was supposed to watch them ignore my car all day? No thanks. A friend recently went for an inspection and they refused to take her insurance on her mobile, insisting she have a paper copy. Whatever mechanic she talked to also made a snide, passive aggressive comment to her as she left. She went to Christian Brothers across the parkway. They had no problem accepting insurance on her mobile. This establishment has been removed from 'places I do business with' in The Woodlands. Thumbs down!
